Anand

Anand city is generally known as Milk Capital of India and its history is almost a carbon copy to the history of the gujarat state. It enjoys pleasant climate almost throughout the year. The conquest of Ala-ud-din Khilji king of Delhi in 1288 influenced the conditions in Gujarat. The Sultans of Delhi had their sway over Gujarat from 1298-1392AD. Ahmad Shah I, the first independent Muslim ruler of Gujarat founded Ahmadabad in 1411. Then the Mughals ruled for about 2 centuries till the Marathas terminated their rule in the mid 18th century. It was during the18th century that Gujarat was divided among number of chiefs. From 1803-1827 the British set up their administration. The British East India companies first head quarters in India was at Surat. It was later moved to Bombay. Finally in May1,1960, the state of Gujarat was formed from the north and west portions of Bombay state, the remainder being renamed the state of Maharashtra. And hence in 1970 the city of Anand came into existance.

Anand is located at 22.57° N 72.93° E.It has an average elevation of 39 metres (127 feet). It is bounded by Kheda District to the north, Vadodara District to the east, Ahmedabad District to the west, and the Gulf of Cambay to the south. The district had a population of 1,856,872 of which 27.36% were urban as of 2001

Anand has seen rapid economic growth along the Anand Vallabh Vidya Nagar road belt. It is well on track to becoming a Municipal Corporation with the inclusion of various peripheral villages like Chikhodra, Lambhvel, V. V Nagar, Karamsad, Mogri and others.
