Bareilly

Bareilly was founded at some point during the 1500s. The beginnings of the city are often traced back to a man named Jagat Singh Katehriya who founded a village called Jagtpur at the beginning of the century. His two sons, Bas Deo and Barel Deo were the founders of Bareilly. The city took the names of both brothers and became "Bans Bareilly". The name Jagatpur is still alive. It refers to one of the old sections (mohalla) of the city.

Bas Deo was killed during a revolt against Mughal rule but for a long time the area remained autonomous. That period only ended when the Mughals successfully overthrew the Afghan nobility in the region.Power passed between clans such as the Rohillans and Avadh until the arrival of the British in the region in 1801 led to the surrender of the whole of Rohilkhand,including Bareilly, to the East India Company. During the 1857 revolt against British rule, Bareilly played a central role, taking over the city for more than a year.Eighty years later, Bareilly again played a key role in opposing the British. Ghandiji visited the city twice and demonstrations were frequent in the city.

Weather of Bareilly is typical of the cities of Western Uttar Pradesh. The city falls in the Rohilkhand area and thus can be considered as a semi-arid region. The summers are scorching with daytime temperature hovering around 37°C to 45°C. Nights are relatively cooler with minimum temperature falling to 27-28°C. The summers set in the month of April and persist till June end. Venturing out during day without proper protection might lead to heatstroke

Monsoon sets in June end but brings very little respite to the simmering city. The average annual rainfall is in the range of 400-500 Millimeters that is precisely contributed by the Southwest jet of monsoon. Winters set in the month of November and persists till February. Winters are quite chilly with minimum temperature hovering around 4-5°C. Winters are the best time to visit Bareilly.

The city of Bareilly is located in the northern part of India and falls in the province of Uttar Pradesh. Bareilly was the kingdom of Rohilla Emperors and it is in the Tarai region of Himalayas. Bareilly is a large District of the region and it cane be boost of many large Industries and is a modern commercial centre. Bareilly is known for its vivid skills in manufacturing of various types of Handicrafts, especially Cane furniture, Bamboo work, Zari-zardoji and Wooden Furniture, Cane craft is one of the main craft of Bareilly in U.P. That is why Bareilly is known as Bans-Bareilly. And all these things make bareilly a strong economic base of Uttar Pradesh.

Bareilly has a very rich fauna and flora. Although the biggest chunk of wildlife sanctuaries and reserves went to Uttaranchal when it was carved out of Uttar Pradesh, few are still left with Uttar Pradesh and bareilly. UP has a vivid climate and relief as it stretches from the Northern Indian plains towards the Ganges basin of East. Therefore national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that are scattered all over the Uttar Pradesh have vivid fauna and flora. The fauna of Bareilly consists Tigers, Cats, Antelopes, Deer, Wild Boars, Elephants, Rhinos and other animals that are common in basin. In terms of birds, Uttar Pradesh is home to various species such as Painted Storks, Black and White-necked Storks, Saras Cranes, Great Indian Horned-owl, Jungle Owlet, Colorful woodpeckers, Barbets, Kingfishers, Minivans, Bee-eaters and Bulbuls.
